This year has been good in terms of me finding music I enjoy. I admit I've been pretty late to the party with these guys, but then I did spend most of the year in Canada and out of the loop. As soon as I got home and heard them, I investigated, loved what I heard, and subsequently bought their album with part of my unemployment benefit money. Heh. Oops. Well, what else is it there for? When you're unemployed, you might as well buy the occasional awesome thing to keep your spirits up. Or something.
Anyway, onto the music. Mumford and Sons is a folky, acoustic-y band from London. The band consists of four members: Marcus Mumford, Country Winston, Ben Lovett, and Ted Dwane. Their website informs me that they "create a gutsy, old-time sound that marries the magic of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young with the might of Kings Of Leon" and I think this is a lovely and accurate description. The band members are all young, and they bring a wonderful energy and spirit to the tracks on their debut album, Sigh No More. Their song have real heart and storytelling; from the first moment I slid the CD into my car's player, I was hooked, and I think anyone else would be, too.
This clip is of their song White Blank Page, which is my favourite from the album so far (although my favourites always change!). You can check out their other videos on YouTube. The band's website can be found at http://www.mumfordandsons.com for further information and other cool stuff.

welcome!
Welcome to The Music List, a blog I've started to write about music I love. I want to explore exciting discoveries, keep track of old favourites and just write about what I'm listening to and enjoying. I tend to listen to a lot of acoustic/folk/guitar/indie/Americana stuff, so much of what I talk about will probably be in that vain, but I'm no music snob - there'll be a pretty big amount of pop music in here too! Music is fun as well as important, and I think you should listen to what moves you, what makes you get up and dance, or sit up and listen.
I encourage recommendations, so if you've heard something awesome recently, leave me a comment. I hope anyone reading this will like at least a few of the artists I discuss.
That's it for now... let's see how this goes!
